During a recent pre-World Cup warm-up game, the US Womens’ side beat the Republic of Ireland 3-0 as they continue to establish themselves as one of the favourites to win the competition. That wasn’t necessarily the main talking point afterwards though.
In the 43rd minute, Ireland’s Ruesha Littlejohn smashed the ball into the face of teammate Meabh De Burca. Despite the ball still being in play, goalkeeper Niamh Reid-Burke checked up on her teammate while USA striker Abby Wambach proceeded to score. Always play to the whistle, Niamh.
