Beautiful: Cystic Fibrosis sufferer plays with Seattle Sounders heroes

Football fans are said to be further adrift from clubs and their players than ever before, but this latest clip from America might just make anyone inclined to feel that way think again. It’s one of those moments that highlights just how special and powerful football can be.

Xander Bailey, who sadly suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, had his boyhood dream come true when he had the chance to pull on the shirt of his beloved Seattle Sounders FC. He was able to train with the first team, start their recent friendly against Premier League side Tottenham and have an effort on goal saved by Spurs goalkeeper Brad Friedel. He was then subbed off to a standing ovation from the cheering fans. Lovely.

Football’s beautiful, isn’t it?
