With strong reports suggesting that David Luiz is on his way to Paris Saint-German emerging in the last day or so, it seems the Brazilian Sideshow Bob is leaving Stamford Bridge for Paris. It was mooted last season and now finally looks to be materialising.
Would it be an almighty blow to Chelsea if he were to depart, though? Not for me.
Luiz’s off the field antics are quite comical and he’s undoubtedly a good person to have around the place, but on the pitch he’s far from a settled player, with a settled position. Jose Mourinho simply doesn’t know where to play him, like many Chelsea managers in the past, and although he’s made the defensive midfield role his own in the last few months of the season, it’s arguably not his natural position.
This, added in with the fact that Frank Lampard is sitting deeper these days and the new arrival of the impressive Nemanja Matic from Benfica, means Chelsea aren’t short in that area and David Luiz is by no means a guaranteed starter.
Fifty million pounds for someone who’s in and out of the team is a marvellous return and would not only enable us to gain huge profit on him, but it’d strengthen our transfer kitty for what is a crucial summer ahead.
David Luiz is a good player and is a likeable man and character, but with the money supposedly on offer we could strengthen elsewhere. We could, of course, sign an out and out defensive midfielder for that money – someone who’s happy playing there as it’s their natural position.
Offloading David Luiz would mean the end of a constant dilemma for whoever’s in charge at Stamford Bridge. He’s scored some memorable goals, been part of some hilarious footage, and has bloody excellent hair, but he’s certainly replaceable.
