Blimey: San Lorenzo players and staff attack referee

Whether it’s the team you support or a Sunday league side with mates, we’ve all been on the receiving end of some diabolical refereeing decisions. The poor sod in black tends to get it wrong a fair bit, but players just have to put up and shut up. That’s sport – what the referee decides is final, whether you like it or not. Well, the San Lorenzo players and staff disagree.

During a Copa Libertadores match between Independiente del Valle and San Lorenzo on Thursday night, the referee awarded a controversial penalty right at the end of the match, resulting in Independiente del Valle getting a vital equaliser. Angry San Lorenzo players and staff went ballistic, charging towards the referee and his officials who were being shielded by police.

Imagine their reaction if that decision had lost them the game!
